LocoSnap ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Photos: When you identify a train, your photo is sent to our server and passed to our AI provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) to analyse. If you are signed in, the photo is then stored in our database and linked to your account so it can appear in your scan history and collection. You can delete an individual scan, or your entire account and everything in it, at any time.

Location: If you grant permission, we record where a scan was taken — typically accurate to within about 100 metres — and store it with that scan. This is optional: you can refuse the permission and keep using the app normally. Two things happen with it. Your device's built-in geocoder (Apple on iOS, Google on Android) turns the coordinates into a place name for the scan card. And if the scan is verified, its position is added to the communal Spotting Atlas, where positions are rounded to a grid of about 0.1 degrees — roughly 11 kilometres — so no individual scan location is ever published.

Account Information: If you create an account, we store your email address and a user ID to manage your profile, collection, and achievements.

Usage Data: We collect anonymous analytics data (screens viewed, features used) to improve the app. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

Crash Reports: We collect anonymous crash reports to fix bugs and improve stability.

Purchase Data: In-app purchase transactions are handled by Apple (App Store), Google Play, and RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of purchases but do not process or store payment details.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To identify trains from your photos using AI
• To maintain your collection, achievements, and leaderboard position
• To process in-app purchases and manage subscriptions
• To improve the app through anonymous analytics
• To fix crashes and bugs

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase — Authentication, database, and storage of your scan photos
• Anthropic / OpenAI — AI train identification and specifications. Your scan photo is transmitted to whichever provider is active, and is used only to answer that request.
• Apple / Google — your device's built-in geocoder converts scan coordinates into a place name
• BigDataCloud — converts Spotting Atlas grid cells, not your exact position, into place names
• RevenueCat — In-app purchase management
• PostHog — Anonymous analytics
• Sentry — Crash reporting

4. Data Retention

Scan photos and their location are stored for as long as the scan remains in your collection. Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual scans, or request deletion of your account and all associated data, at any time.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Withdraw consent for data processing

6. Children's Privacy

LocoSnap does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
